Virginia M. Miller, 91, of Deltaville, passed away on June 13, 2014 with family by her side at Riverside-Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, VA. Born September 30, 1922 to William C. and Cornelia T. Miller at Locust Hill, VA. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Smithers, Helen Johnson, and Annie Belle Miller and brothers Wilmer, Eubank and Frank Miller. She leaves behind a daughter, Becky Sibley and husband Russell, two sons, Billy Mayo and wife Nancy and Charles B. (Birdseed) Miller, Jr., and wife Betty. She also leaves five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping, VA., where she was a lifelong member. Visitation will be 10:00 AM at the church followed by services at 11:00 AM and interment in the church cemetery. Constance “Connie” Stanley Wood, 72, of Saluda, VA, formally of Hanover, VA, widow of William R. Wood, passed away June 28, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur L. Stanley and Lillian Boettcher Stanley, and sister, Joyce Otto. She is survived by her son, Bobby H. Stanley, Jr. (Brenda), grandchildren, Cary Stanley (Amber), Stephanie Fleming (John), and Brooke Stanley; great-grandchildren, Corbin and Jeremiah Fleming; nephew, Michael Otto, niece, Kristy Edwards and their families, and her friends and neighbors. Frances M. Hargus, age 71, of Wake, a retired Bookkeeper/Secretary, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 after a courageous 17 year battle with COPD. She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church where she played the piano for a number of years. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clarence C. Hargus, one daughter, Debbie Hargus of Salem; one son, Scott Hargus (Cheryl) of Appomattox; 2 grandchildren, Christy and Daniel and one brother, Edward Monfalcone (Linda) of Gloucester. Katherine Elena “Katy” Redmon, age 34, of Urbanna, VA died July 26, 2014. She was preceded in death by her mother, Tamera Moreno of Groleta, CA. She is survived by her husband, Elliott Randolph Redmon; daughter, Gina Brooke Gibson; two step-sons, Elliott R. Redmon, II and Thomas Elliott Redmon; father, Mario Moreno of Goleta, CA.; step-father, William Robert Honeycutt; sisters, Gina and Gabby Moreno, Maggie Honeycutt; brother, W. Robert Honeycutt; grandmother, Patricia L. “Gay” Walters; grandfather, William M. Walters, Jr.; aunt, Natalie Craig (Jerry); uncles, Toby and Tony Walters; cousins, Miranda Carter (David), Ashley Flournoy (Eric), David Walters (Katie), and Nicole Craig. Katy graduated in 1999 from Southeast Guilford High School, Greensboro, NC. She received a diploma in The Medical Assisting Program from Everest College in Newport News, VA in 2008. Perry Mason, Jr.
Perry Mason Jr, 85, of Topping Virginia died on Aug. 14, 2014 of cancer. Perry was born to Ruth and Perry Sr. on December 18, 1928 in Washington DC. He graduated from Petersburg High School and entered the Army Air Corps. On discharge, he attended Virginia Tech, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He married his wife, Joan Armer, on June 3, 1956. His first job after college was with General Electric where he worked for 16 years. In 1970, he joined NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland from which he retired in 1989 after 19 years of government service. His retirement years were spent in Topping, Virginia where he enjoyed his hobbies of gardening, fishing, and model building. He also was active in the Lower United Methodist Church of Hartfield, Virginia and Hands Across Middlesex where he built ramps for wheelchair bound residents.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Fred, his niece Sherry, and granddaughter Bethany. He is survived by his wife Joan and three sons: Dave, wife Loni, and son Matt of Ohio; Dan, wife Lisa, daughter Rebecca, and son Ben of Virginia; and Peter, wife Lisa, daughter Casey, and son Robert of Maryland. He has a niece Missy, nephews Bud and Perry Scott, and three great nieces and nephews.
A visitation is planned for Saturday August 23, 2014 at the Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda, Virginia from 3 to 7 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at the Lower United Methodist Church in Hartsfield, Virginia on Sunday, August 24 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow in the hall at the church.
Many thanks go out to the people of the Lower United Methodist Church for their prayers and support through this time, especially Pastor Barry Burkholder and the women of the church for providing the reception. Also, the caring and concern of all those that work at Gloucester House assisted living is much appreciated.

Dorothy J. Lawson, age 85 of Saluda died Thursday, August 28, 2014 and joined her parents Troy and Rosetta Jones, her loving son, Larry and her thirteen siblings in heaven. She was a member of Westville Baptist Church, Mathews. Survived by her husband, William A. “Bill” Lawson, Sr.; a daughter, Sherry Lawson Perok; sons, William A. Lawson, Jr. (Bridgette) and Terry Lawson. Seven grandchildren; Kimberly Laino, Stephen Perok, Jonathan Perok, Brittany Gutierrez, Larry Lawson, Jr., Amy Marshall and Rachel Chauvin, twelve great grandchildren and also many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Paul Jones and Rev. Mike Kelly will be held 11:00 AM Monday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation, Saluda. James Atlas Fellers, Sr.
James Atlas Fellers, Sr., age 74, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014. Jim was a graduate of Norview High School in Norfolk, VA. He resided in Virginia Beach, VA most of his adult life and worked for the U.S. Civil Service Defense Department for 34 years. He specialized in navigational and communication systems as an engineering technician, working at the Norfolk Naval Sea Combat Engineering Station. He loved music and enjoyed playing stringed instruments, the banjo being one of his favorite. He had a passion for electronics and photography. Jim was well loved by all who knew him and he had a great sense of humor. He was predeceased by his father Albert Fellers and mother Helen Fellers. He is survived by his brother, Charles Fellers; his children, James A. Fellers, Jr. and his wife Barbara, April D. Bullock, Jeff A. Fellers and his wife Nancy. His grandchildren, Robert Bullock, Amanda Bullock, Emily Fellers, James A. Fellers, III, Rebekah Fellers, Jesse Fellers and Grace Fellers. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Our beloved mother, Victoria Matiani-Markov, met our Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 06, 2014, after losing her battle of cancer at the age of 73. Throughout her life, our mother was a successful business woman, owning four beauty salons and co-owning three restaurants, the latest one Angelos’ Colonial Pizza in Urbanna, Virginia. She was a compassionate woman who is survived by her husband of fifty-one years of marriage, Angelos Markov, and their first daughter Alexandra and husband James Rush, grandchildren Angelos and Anthony Vaziouracis, Anthony’s fiancée Brianne Meyerson, and great grandchild Colten Vaziouracis; second daughter Liberty and husband David Bushey, grandchildren Emilia Randler and Alexander Bushey; her third daughter Angelina and husband Eric Deagle, grandchildren Victoria and Zacharias Deagle. Our family will receive family and friends at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda, Virginia, on Wednesday evening, September 10, 2014, between 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. The funeral service will be at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Newport News, Virginia, on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 11 A.M. On a later date, our mother will be laid to rest in Greece.
Donald Kenneth Vance
Donald Kenneth Vance, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., formerly of Urbanna, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Somerby Assisted Living.
Don was born on November 24, 1924, in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, the son of Jesse L. Vance and Katherine Bowling Vance. He married Gloria Lou VanStavern on May 31, 1946. They were married for 54 years.
He was educated in Gary, West Virginia, public schools and graduated from Concord University, Athens, West Virginia. He worked in several business areas — trucking, busing, insurance and as a bank examiner — however, he found his passion for helping others as a community banker with the Bank of Middlesex in Urbanna in 1962, beginning as a cashier and ending his career as president prior to the sale of the bank. The bank was sold in 1982 to First Virginia Bankshares and subsequently to BB&T.
Don retired in 1989 and devoted his time to community service, playing golf, assisting with his grandchildren, and furthering his education. He finished his undergraduate degree at Concord University in December 2010 at the age of 86 to complete a promise made in 1942 to his father. A man of his word, he will be loved forever and will be greatly missed.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Kathy (Wayne) Hall of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Ken (Jane) Vance of Statesville, N.C.; and Rick (Barbara) Vance of Midlothian; his grandchildren, Adam (Elizabeth) Hall of Ellicott City, MD; John (Lauren) Hall of Mt. Airy, MD; Wells (Sarah Yancey) Vance of Davidson, N.C.; Anne Tyson Vance of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Kathryn Vance of Charlotte, N.C.; Melissa Vance of Midlothian, and Sarah Vance of Yorktown; and one great-grandson, Addison James Hall of Ellicott City, MD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his parents and eight brothers and sisters. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving support of the dedicated staff at Somerby Assisted Living and Agape Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at Somerby Assisted Living at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 6. A memorial service is planned at Urbanna United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 27, at 2 p.m. J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Funeral Chapels and Crematory, Charleston, S.C., will be handling arrangements.

Phillip Ray White, Jr.
Phillip Ray White, Jr. of Deltaville went to be with his heavenly Father suddenly Saturday, September 13, 2014. He was 53 years old. He is predeceased by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George Freeman Madison, an uncle, James Freeman Madison, his father in law, Paul S. Green Jr., and his stepfather and stepmother Mr. and Mrs. John R. Croxton Jr. Phillip leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend of 30 years, Vicki Green White, their daughter Kimberley Madison White-Franks, and son in law, Taylor Harrison Franks of Williamsburg. Phillip loved the Lord and served in all aspects of his church, Zoar Baptist, from Sunday school superintendent to drummer of the Sunday beach service and church services, he especially loved playing with his daughter, Madison, on the piano during church services. He was a member of the band “Spreading Joy”. Phillip also helped establish the youth group as a leader for 5 years and touched many young people’s lives. Phillip worked most of his adult life in the automotive field in Middlesex County and the Northern Neck. His current position was Service Manager of Medlin Ford in West Point. He also leaves his mother, Mary Jane Madison Wager of White Stone, sister, Candi Millen (Ricky) of Gloucester, and brothers Johnny Croxton of Gloucester and Anthony Croxton of West Point. He also leaves his father, Phillip Ray White, Sr. (Becky), and brothers Bobby (Brenda) and Melvin White (Harriet) all of Richmond. In addition he leaves, his mother in law, Joyce Green Reisinger of Tappahannock, brother in law, Paul S. Green III (Cindy) of Abingdon, sister in law Kimberley Green Cox (Jeff) of Hardyville and many nieces and nephews. Also extended family members, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Benson of Deltaville, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Boyd of North Carolina, Angela Berry of Gloucester, VA, Penney Baldoni of Delaware, and Wayne Thomas of Gloucester. He also leaves many friends who he loved. In addition, he leaves behind his fur children, Ro Ro and Sassy, and his fur grandchildren, Dixie and Kit Kat. In May, he walked his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day, which was a joyous time for the whole family. Phillip had a large heart and loved many and always found the good in all people. He will be greatly missed by many close friends and family. Funeral services will be held at Zoar Baptist Church at 11 o’clock in the morning Wednesday, September 17th, where an interment will follow in the church cemetery. After the interment, the family requests that friends and family return to Zoar Baptist Church’s fellowship hall for food and to visit with the family. Also, the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, September 16th at Zoar Baptist Church’s sanctuary. Gertrude “Trudi” Seccomb Topping
Gertrude (Trudi) Seccomb Topping of Locust Hill, Va. peacefully passed away September 15th. She was born in Auburn, NY to Dr. and Mrs. Milo Seccomb on September 14, 1915. Trudi was a resident of Williamsburg, VA, until her late eighties at which point she moved to Locust Hill. Trudi is survived by her daughter, Georgianna (Muffin) Asbury; three grandchildren Wendy, Kelly and Christopher, and great grandson, Braxton. Gratitude and love for all the care given to Trudi and family from the team at Riverside Walter Reed Hospice. A celebration of life will take place at the Wren Chapel on the campus of The College of William and Mary on September 19th at two o’clock.
